3-Ply- Scottish Blackface Rug Yarn

60.00

Super Bulky weight yarn, hand-dyed using Bainbridge farmed or foraged plants.

Our Scottish Blackface base is a hearty 3-ply which is designed especially for crafting durable home items such as rugs and baskets.

Scottish Blackface sheep are traditionally used to make the renowned Scottish Tweeds. This sheep has a double coat; a rougher protective outer coat, the kemp, and the finer inner coat of softer wool. Our Rug Yarn has been processed using both coats, making for a rustic, slightly tweedy yarn. With its thick gauge, it knits or crochets up quickly, perfect for those instant gratification projects!

We at Local Color Fiber Studio grow and gather our dye-material, use non-toxic mordants and source only sustainably raised US grown and milled wool. We care about our environmental footprint and are passionate about utilizing plants, fungi and lichen that flourish in our climate.

Each skein is:

-  1.5 lbs, 250 yards

-  super bulky, 3-ply 100% Scottish Blackface Wool

-   milled by Insouciant Fibers and sourced from a farm in Keyport, WA

Washington state residents will be charged 6.5% sales tax. Please allow at least a week for us to dye and ship your yarn.

Dyes:

  • MADDER ROOT- poppy red
  • INDIGO-  sky blue or true blue dyed using Japanese Indigo
  • SALAL BERRY- silvery grey, great for balancing a contrast color
  • Custom colors, please email us and we can dye to order!

For Dyes with a range of colorways please select the Dye and Color you prefer.

** A note about indigo: while it is wonderfully color/lightfast, it may rub onto hands and needles from the pressure of initial knitting. We recommend using metal needles as wood will stain blue.
